What is the difference between DOT Hoses and others?

DOT (Department of Transportation) certification for air brake hoses is a safety standard established by the U.S. Department of Transportation. It applies primarily to components used in air brake systems of road vehicles, especially trucks, buses, and trailers.

Objectives of DOT certification:

1. Safety Assurance: DOT-certified air brake hoses must meet strict criteria to ensure their reliability and performance under demanding conditions, such as high pressures, temperature variations, and vibrations.
2. Legal Compliance: Certification is required for hoses and components used in air brake systems of vehicles operating on U.S. roads.

Requirements for DOT hoses:

DOT-certified hoses must comply with the standards defined in FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) 106, which cover specifications for hydraulic and air brake systems. Criteria include:

• Rated Pressure: Ability to withstand high pressures (generally around 150 PSI or more).
• Temperature Resistance: Safe operation over a wide temperature range, often from -40°C to +100°C (-40°F to +212°F).
• Flexibility and Durability: Ability to resist repeated bending, abrasion, and impacts without compromising hose integrity.
• Aging Tests: Resistance to aging due to exposure to UV, oil, fuels, or other chemical agents.
